Heartwood
Heartwood alludes to the anatomy of a tree as a metaphor for mankind’s connection to history. Heartwood is the central, supporting pillar of the tree and although dead, it will not decay or lose strength while the outer layers are intact. It’s composite of fibers and lignin are in many ways as strong as steel.
